hAngry&Angry @ I love Radio Taiwan FM103 - part II

(How can I forget this...)

One caller asked Yossi what she thought if she had to do a Michael Jackson dance with Niigaki Risa, since the latter had said so publicly. Yossi said it would be good idea. In fact, Rika and she went together to watch 'This is it' and were moved by the movie. Since the DVD will be released soon, she already planned to invite fellow h!p members to a DVD screening at her place, and they will dance and drink the night away.

* Yossi falls in love with Taiwan's milk tea.
* The trip to Taiwan, Rika has been eating non-stop because there are too many delicious food around. Milk Tea, xiao long bao and Peking duck. Just before, she was on a diet when doing photoshoot for her pictorial book, but now she's going to put on weight because of her bingeing. Asked about her weight now , she replied it is highly confidential.
* Asked what she felt seeing others who had graduated from MM getting married and having kids, Rika said she hopes to get married too, but is still waiting for her Prince Charming to appear. Yossi sat up, put on a manly voice and said "I'm the Prince Charming."
* Yossi cannot imagine herself getting married since she is a prince now.
* When they were in MM, majority of their fans are male. They notice there's some changes and now they have many female fans.
* Yossi doesn't mind hAngry's image being androgynous since she has always been boyish.
* Even back when they auditioned, Rika already found the thin and tall Yossi to be very cool.
* Rika said on TV recently that Yossi's has been praising her for being cute.
* Before the collaboration with h.NAOTO Yossi used to wear black because she thought she wouldn't look good in pink. But now she knows she can carry the colour well. For Rika, she likes to wear skirt more now.

hAngry&Angry f @Chibi Japan Expo Q&A (missing/corrected parts)

Found this in Japanese wotas' forum.

Q11: What do you like or dislike about each other?
Yossi: Good point about Rika is that she's cute and easy to understand. When she's hungry, she's hungry. When she's sleepy, she sleeps. She's so easy to understand that she gets angry over it, too? Always so. When she's hungry, she gets angry over why she has gotten hungry. When she's sleepy, she gets angry over why she has become sleepy. She's cute in a way that she's always 'angry'.
Rika: hAngry is someone who's the exact opposite of me. She's mature and composed. Although I am older and supposed to be her (elder) sister, hAngry is the sisterly figure I fully depend on. To say one (bad) thing about her, she eats too many eggs? Yeah, she eats too many eggs.
Yossi: I had already eaten 3 since morning.

Q29: What would you do if you weren't Morning Musume?
Yossi: An athlete.
Rika: Angry may do something like coming to France to study and maybe learn a little French. I want to learn French!

Q34: What is your dream (now)?
Yossi: To make more of our music. To release albums and singles. To do lives?
Rika: My dream is to hold concerts overseas.
Yossi: World concert tours!
Rika: Yes~ world tours.
Yossi: 夢は (sic)

Q39: (to Rika) Are you still afraid of birds? (to Yossi) Since you're such a cool person, what do you think of wearing pink?
Rika: I am still afraid of birds. Streets in France are full of birds I got so afraid and thought what should I do. Yet, my favourite choice of meat is chicken meat.
Yossi: I don't reject pink anymore. But if I have to say something, then I am very disturbed by the fact that hAngry's fashion this time round is a (pink!!) SKIRT.

H&A interview with Nippon Project

Another H&A interview by Nippon Project
(many thanks!)

Do you have a favorite anime or manga?

H&A: A lot.

Which would you cosplay from?
H: Crayon Shin chan.
A: Sailor Moon but definitely Angry.

Since you have video blogs, have you thought about writing a written blog?
H & A: No.

Who’s your favorite American celebrity?
H: Britney Spears and Michael Jackson.
A: Obama. (Giggles)

What is your favorite Michael Jackson song?
H: Bad.
A: ABC.

How many hairspray bottles do you use to get your hair to stay up?
H: 1/3 of the can.

Since this is your first overseas concert, do you want to visit or play in other places here?
H: Rockefeller Center and MGM.
A: The Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.

You came to Earth to save the world from global warming, how do you plan to do that?
A: Turn lights off and pull plugs out from their sockets.
H: Turn water off often.

Do you have any input on the designs of the outfits?
H: I think about the outfit and then I think about what hairstyle would go best with the outfit.

What’s one place you would recommend your international fans go if they go to Japan?
H: Hangry & Angry in Harajuku.

What kind of musical background did you have when you were little?
H: Children songs.
A: I always listened to what my father listened to and he listened to pop.

Where is LOVE MACHINE now?
H: My garage.

Do you plan to sing your songs in other languages besides Japanese?
H & A: Maybe English.

Cake or Pie?
H & A: Cake.

What is your reaction in meeting your American fans?
H: Very sweet and upbeat.
A: Cute and dress themselves well.

How was your trip here?
H: Lots of jetlag.
A: I keep eating.

Can you describe how you formed Hangry & Angry?
H: h. Naoto approached us with the idea and asked if we wanted to collaborate with him.

Name a Japanese food you really like to eat.
H & A: A lot!
A: Sushi!

How do you relate to Hangry & Angry and what do they mean to you in your own words?
H: We can relate to Hangry & Angry but we know that this is a character. We respect the character though our real personality is different.
A: We judge each others appearance.
H: Angry’s fashion is really cute.
A: Sometimes we mix up characters. Hangry’s fashion is really punk and really cool but when I wear it, I don’t think I can pull it off.

You recently graduated from Hello!Project, do you have any future plans for your career?
H: Hangry & Angry is my life right now.
A: [in English] Me too!

When is the new Hangry & Angry single coming out?
A: [in English] “I don’t know!” but we will be playing a brand new song at the concert. Afterwards you can purchase it on MySpace and JapanFiles.

Since you mentioned you weren’t like the characters Hangry & Angry, how do you get yourself into character?
H: When I put on the clothes, the makeup & my hair done, I’m absorbing the character. And when I see the audience, I’m ready to rock on.

Would you or have you done modeling for h.Naoto?
A: We’ve been modeling for Hangry & Angry in Japan.

What Japanese bands do you listen to?
H: Morning Musume.
A: All Hello!Project.

Do you like any live action dramas?
A: I watch a lot of American dramas. Prison Break.
H: 24!
A: Heroes! Lost! But American dramas are so long so I gave up.

When you look into the audience do you see a sea of faces or individual people?
A: I see everything. I see everyone smiling and how excited they are and that gives me more energy to perform.

What do you do during your free time?
A: Eat. I love eating. (Giggles.)
H: Writing.

Do you cook or do you always eat out?
A: Yeah I cook, but I’m not good at it.

You’re selling out one-man’s and your MySpace page had 160,000 hits in the first three days. Were you expecting such instant success?
A: Not at all. We never knew that there were many international fans. Now that we’re here in Seattle and the fans are in front of us…it’s so hard to believe.
The internet brings the world together.
H: Internet rules.

What are you plans in Seattle?
A: …The seafood is good. (Laughs.)
H: I want to visit Starbucks.

Nippon Project would like to thank Hangry & Angry, Lynks Management and JapanFiles for this interview.

Rika turns your knees into Jelly~

This is the second time stylist Rika Yoshida is working with Rika. Even though she finds Rika to be the kawaii type, she wants to turn Rika into a 3:00am Cinderella, with a mature side of her never seen. Rika feels happy about the makeover saying how it's the first time she gets her make-up and hair styled in this manner. Yoshida thinks that Rika will look good too if made to wear cutie clothes instead of those dresses. Rika says dresses and cute clothes aren't in her private wardrobe. When she's out (for practices) she always dresses casually in t-shirts and Gパン (ragged-looking jeans). Yoshida then says there can be a cute side to rough dressing too, and that's precisely what she's going to do the next time she gets to work with Rika again.

(Me says...) one word: chameleon
She turns even woman on

hAngry&Angry interview @JaME

(The whole interview was TAKEN FROM JaME's webpage.)

Based off the original characters designed by GASHICON, duo HANGRY&ANGRY made their first US performance at Sakura-Con in Seattle. On the last day of the convention, JaME was given the chance to chat with the pair.

Thank you for meeting with us. Could you please introduce yourselves?

ANGRY: Thank you, too!
HANGRY: I’m HANGRY.
ANGRY: I’m ANGRY.

Is this your first time visiting America?

ANGRY: As HANGRY&ANGRY, this is our first time in America, but as normal visitors, we’ve been here before.
HANGRY: I’ve been to Florida. You’ve been to Hawaii…
ANGRY: And I’ve been to Los Angeles.

Is there anything you’d like to see while you’re here?

ANGRY: We want to see the flying fish! (laughs)
HANGRY: The Space Needle, too! We haven’t done it yet.

What were your impressions of yesterday’s show?

HANGRY: The best!
ANGRY: Very fun. It was very exciting!

Was it what you expected?

HANGRY: (shakes head) Not at all!
ANGRY: We didn’t think that many people would show up! (laughs) Like, what if only three people would show up? What will we do? We were so worried about it. We never expected that people would enjoy our concert that much!

How was the onstage birthday surprise for HANGRY?

HANGRY: Ah! (laughs) It was a really big surprise, I thought “ehh, what’s this?!”
ANGRY: We had so many meetings on how it would go, it was a super top secret mission!
HANGRY: They definitely tricked me really well! (laughs)
ANGRY: Mission accomplished! (laughs)

How did HANGRY&ANGRY come to life as a band?

HANGRY&ANGRY: The creator GASHICON made the characters. Original HANGRY&ANGRY were bad girls, so they damaged the earth. HANGRY&ANGRY of the future were born and we were living in the planet H44 Star Nebula until we decided to come to earth by the time ship named LOVE MACHINE. Then, h.NAOTO decided to put his idea for the clothing and fashion into a collaboration and asked us to perform, that’s our character story. The old nature from the original HANGRY&ANGRY’s time has been destroyed, and now we’re here to save the earth from global warming, that’s our characters’ mission.

Were you fans of h.NAOTO’s designs before the band’s start?

HANGRY: Even before the band started, we thought the style was so cool!

Does GASHICON or h.NAOTO design your outfits?

ANGRY: h.NAOTO made the original outfits we wear in Kill Me Kiss Me for us. The outfits we’re wearing right now, h.NAOTO had already purposely designed and arranged them for us: HANGRY with pink, and me with blue. h.NAOTO collaborates with us to design the outfits.

While your music has a very pop-rock feel, your fashion style leans more towards visual kei. Was this intentional to help bring gurokawa to life?

HANGRY: This is our first time at Sakura-Con, and there are a lot of cosplayers here. If we are the signature for gurokawa… (laughs) That’s the best match - we’re proud to be the head of gurokawa. If anyone wants to cosplay HANGRY&ANGRY, that’s great! That’s our dream! (laughs)

How long does it take you to get fully ready?

HANGRY&ANGRY: One hour each.

Is it hard to keep your hair styled up like that?

ANGRY: It’s itchy! (laughs) It’s pulling so hard!
HANGRY: ANGRY wears a wig, so it’s really itchy, but I have lots of hairspray (both mimic using hairspray), so it’s really hard to take down!
ANGRY: For the makeup, it’s easy to put on, but difficult to take off. It takes a long time!

Why did the two of you decide to adopt the characters HANGRY&ANGRY?

ANGRY: It’s pretty easy, (laughs) it was a perfect match! ANGRY is more girlish and HANGRY is more punkish and cool.

How did you choose who would be HANGRY and who would be ANGRY?

ANGRY: It was very natural, we didn’t realize that until you asked right now. (laughs) As soon as we saw the picture, it was like, okay! I’m ANGRY, she’s HANGRY. We didn’t even discuss it! We didn’t realize that. (laughs)
HANGRY: (laughs) It was a very natural process.

Could you tell us something unique about each other?

HANGRY: ANGRY is so easy to understand. When she’s so excited, (smiles) okay, she’s up! When she’s down (scowls and grunts) okay, she’s down! (laughs)
ANGRY: (laughs)
HANGRY: It’s fun to watch, though! (laughs)
ANGRY: A unique thing about HANGRY… I’ve been spending time with her for probably the last ten years. One thing that she’s never changed is that she likes eggs. (laughs)
HANGRY: (laughs)

HANGRY&ANGRY’s mission is to save the earth from global warming. Is this message present in your songs, or is it more of an undertone?

HANGRY: We didn’t really want to combine one concept into everything. Music is music, and hopefully when we sing our songs, it’ll impact the world, but it doesn’t have to have our mission in the lyrics.
ANGRY:We are not the message or statement ourselves, our characters’ concepts are. The music is a completely different thing.

While quickly gaining popularity overseas, how do you feel about the language barrier presented for non-native speaking listeners?

ANGRY: Well, we never really thought that there is a language barrier in music, but every time we come to other countries, I definitely think, okay, I wish I could speak more English to communicate with people.

In the Kill Me Kiss Me PV, you both were seen playing the guitar. Have you been studying the guitar, or was that just for the PV?

HANGRY: We’re still practicing!
ANGRY: When we did the PV, it was just a performance, but we are practicing!

IZAM produced the PV. What was that experience like?

HANGRY: We performed everything on the green screen. We didn’t really know how it goes, we just did our part and were pretty pleased with the result!
ANGRY: IZAM taught us how to move, and that was a really good experience. We never had experience being this close (demonstrates by moving close to HANGRY) so I didn’t know how that would feel, but it was very natural and fun! Also, the hairstyle we had is very pointy, so when we got close, we poked each other - “ow, ow!” (laughs) That was the biggest episode.

Oricon gave you your own weblog, how’d that come about?

HANGRY: We definitely wanted people to know HANGRY&ANGRY more, so we decided to start a video blog.

What kind of challenges did you face while you were recording the songs on Kill Me Kiss Me?

ANGRY: The English!
HANGRY: Yeah, the English.
ANGRY: The English part is challenging, and we learned it with the rhythm using furigana and katakana. It’s not only speaking English, we had to go by rhythm, too. We practiced so many times, the two of us have to sing it on the right timing.
HANGRY: It was challenging!
ANGRY: (saying the English lyrics) “Baby tell you honey I just wanna” (laughs) It was difficult. Also, in Sadistic Dance, there’s the word ‘Bible.' In Japanese it’s ‘baiburu,' but singing it in English, it sounded like ‘baibol,’ so it was all about timing. (laughs) It was difficult. (in English) Not easy! Angelia also has a high note that was hard to hit.

Speaking of Angelia, who are you singing about?

HANGRY: There is a girl called Angelia.
ANGRY: But it is not us, we’re singing about a girl called Angelia.

Is there a song in particular you feel you can best relate to?

HANGRY: (thinks for a moment) GIZA GIZA.The lyrics are about not normally showing weakness, but throughout the song, it comes out that it’s okay to show my weakness. It’s very close to my own real life. I don’t show my weakness, but it’s okay to sing that way.
ANGRY: In Romantic ni Violence, I relate to the chorus part, it’s a really positive part that I can relate with.

The live you held on January 23 at Shibuya eggman sold out well before the show. How was the live?

HANGRY: We had never performed in a live house before, that was our first experience. The audience was right there, so close! (laughs)
ANGRY: HANGRY was so excited to run as far as possible to the front to interact with the audience, but I was kind of scared, so I kept going back and back and back! (laughs)

How did you prepare yourselves for it?

HANGRY: I was so excited, I wanted to stage dive, but the staff was so scared and told me to never dive into the audience, so I had to tell myself “I cannot dive, do not dive!” (laughs) That was a challenge for me!

Within the first four days of your MySpace page’s opening, it had received over 100,000 views. What was your initial reaction when you heard the news?

HANGRY: “Ehh?!”
ANGRY: “Is this real?” That was the first reaction. Especially with the Internet, it’s really hard to know that - is this real or what? So we thought it was just a number, but it’s really an amazing thing!
HANGRY: We were overwhelmed!

Do you have any future plans that you could tell us about?

HANGRY: We would definitely like to go all over the world and do live shows. This is our first time in the US performing in front of American fans. Maybe next, Europe? I don’t know, but I’d really like to go to as many places as possible to perform. Also, our album is going to be released in the fall!

That includes the new song, Sadistic Dance, that you played last night?

HANGRY&ANGRY: Yes!

Lastly, please give a message to your fans,

ANGRY: It’s not only music, it’s fashion and character. There’s so many challenges we’d like to take on in the future, so please support us and see what we’re up to because we’ll always keep challenging ourselves!

Thank you!

HANGRY&ANGRY: Thank you!

JaME would like to thank Yaz Noya, Lynx International, Sakura-Con, JapanFiles and HANGRY&ANGRY for making this interview possible.

msn Tokyo Alice interview part 2

When asked whether 'love' or 'money' is more important in a relationship, Rika said that there was something she always wanted to say and that "it is neither love nor money, but health that is the most important." Once, when watching a scene on TV, her mother had told her "only when you are in good health, then you can work hard to make money" and she has remembered those words since.

Yossi thinks having money in a relationship is quite important to an extent, because if there's no money, there's no way you can feed your hunger, and in this case, it is about survival. For love, Yossi trailed off and said "taking a character in the play for an example, I would tell the jobless and penniless person please come back (to me) after you have worked hard." Rika felt what Yossi had said was 'kakkoii'.

Yossi found the other woman's views too profound. She joked that since she had stepped into showbiz at the early age of 14, she had never experienced any adolescent teenage love, therefore her own views just now might be quite objective. However, there were times when she learned of people around her getting married, she would think 'so, they took the plunge, ne?' The other woman agreed and said people nowadays married at a young age. Yossi couldn't agree more (since fellow 4th gen member Tsuji Nozomi was a good example), but she said she never thought the same (thing) would happen to her. Rika agreed by saying 'somehow it feels like it is always other people's business, never mine...' to which Yossi agreed "it is other people's business, right?"

When asked if they looked forward to marriage, Rika said she would really be troubled if her prince charming were to suddenly appear in her life now. Yossi retorted: "You can never get married if you keep saying my prince-charming." They laughed and Rika said: "I won't marry suddenly because that would make me wonder what would happen to my job. However, there were times when I would dream about marriage, like forming a happy family and having kids."
Yossi felt that in reality she couldn't see herself getting married any time soon; her greatest joy now is her job.

If she were to live again, Rika said she would still choose her current job. She felt it's all fate that she had auditioned to be in MM, and then chosen and given the job. It wasn't because of her interest or any special talent that made her want to be in this line again, it was because after ten years of doing it, she felt she's so fated to be in this line. She likes the many challenges she gets to face.
Yossi said she wanted to be a man and would learn to hold a golf club at the age of 3. Rika gave the name of a famous Japanese golfer, and Yossi said 'Yes, I will want to become a professional golfer.'

Rika thinks she has grown up in a way that she is now able to withstand hunger better. She doesn't show it like before when people could just see from her face that she was getting hungry.

Yossi said she herself doesn't change (much). Perhaps the only thing about her that changes often is her hairstyle. Her hairstyle now is the longest she has had. Normally, she'd cut her hair when it has grown this long, and would already have if not for the musical, since long hair suits her role better. But, she is starting to get sick of her long hair. She doesn't like short hair better, just that short hair feels more comfortable and now, she finds it really troublesome to dry her long hair after washing.

When asked how they have changed after they have graduated from MM, Yossi said since we are still together always... when Rika said we are still together in group activities and will also meet up often. Rika then said if this time she were all alone in the musical, she would definitely feel nervous, but since Yossi and Makoto are with her now, she doesn't feel any 'isolation' (<<-- I might get this wrong).

(Me says...) a lot of things are going through my head now...

msn Tokyo Alice interview part 1

With Rika laughing like this and Yossi looking like this, we know someone must be telling something goofy.

Interview excerpts:

- Rika is not brand-conscious, and she'll think for a very long time before buying something.
- Rika idolizes (falls in love) easily. For example, after she had watched Pirates of the Caribbean, she quickly fell in love with Johnny Dep. Then she was in love with Tom Cruise for his character in Mission Impossible. As she didn't really like Tom Cruise before, she wondered if it was because of his hairstyle in the movie. When Yossi retorted that was because she is always look-conscious (visual-conscious), she laughed.
- Yossi doesn't go for looks. She thinks that the world is full of beautiful people so that's nothing great about looking beautiful or handsome. Besides she thinks that people who are narcissistic can't be trusted.
- When asked about her love life, Yossi said the only man around her during her younger days was her dad. Rika added that Yossi has eyes that looks like her father, describing them having a calming presence. Yossi said her dad isn't handsome nor good-looking, but has a good sense of humor. He is also the kind of father who isn't too serious or crazy. The thing she likes most about her father is that her father sees her mother as the most important person in his life. She hopes to marry someone like her father, although her mother often tells her "Please marry someone different from your father!'
- Rika wants to marry someone who is her prince-charming. But, many a times, people have told her it is almost impossible to find someone like that.

(Me really digs the way Yossi dresses, and her slender legs are just... *faints*)
